Final Reflections
May 21, 2016
The final reflections paper serves as a final written synthesis assignment the Introduction to Research course. In this final paper, students are asked to critically evaluate the benefits of research fluency for practicing midwives and the midwifery profession. Specifically, reflect on the following core questions and topics in their paper:
1) What do you feel were the most important research concepts/skills you learned in this course and why?;
2) What areas of research fluency (i.e. – skills) do you feel you are most likely to apply during your career as a midwife?;
3) What are the benefits of obtaining research skills for practicing midwives?; and
4) How does growing the midwife-researcher community benefit the profession of midwifery at-large?

Reflection
I have always enjoyed reading original research. I must admit though, I have not always had the skills to evaluate it. With this course under my belt I am much more confident when reading research. I enjoyed the exercises in this class to educate me to better interpret research. While many providers promote "evidenced-based care" I sometimes wonder how many of the providers actually read the original research. I feel that since completing this course I am a better consumer of research.
